Book 1 Coming Memorial Day 2027

A Knock at the Door

1936 – 1943

Oklahoma • California • South Pacific • Australia

Oklahoma farm boy turned UCLA freshman John Carlsen is building a future he never thought possible — new friends, a Naval ROTC appointment, and a girl who takes his breath away. Then the war takes all of it. Wounded in the brutal naval battles of the South Pacific and blindsided by a betrayal from home, John is sent to Australia to recover. What he finds there will redefine everything he thought he knew about love, loss, and coming home.

A sweeping coming-of-age saga of faith, sacrifice, and redemption during World War II.

Book 2

Ilsa’s Choice

1943 – 1945

California • Cross-Country • Savannah

Seventeen-year-old Ilsa Carlsen longs for a life beyond the quiet routines of her family’s California farm. When she falls for Johann Meyer, a handsome German prisoner of war, she finds herself caught between her heart and everything she’s ever been taught to believe. As their relationship deepens despite growing opposition, Johann reveals a daring plan that will force Ilsa to decide how far she’ll go for the man she loves — and what she’s willing to leave behind.

A powerful story about love, loyalty, sacrifice, and the consequences of the choices that shape our lives.

Book 3

Eye of the Beholder

1938 – 1944

Hollywood • USO Tours • Europe

When a talent scout discovers Grace Carlsen behind the counter of a small-town drugstore, she’s offered the dream she’s carried her whole life. As her star rises through wartime Hollywood and USO stages overseas, Grace finds herself surrounded by fame, glamour, and opportunities she never imagined. Yet the closer she comes to having everything she wants, the more she questions where true worth is found. Then a single moment changes everything.

A moving story about identity, faith, resilience, and learning to see beauty through different eyes.

Book 4

Torgau

April – September 1945

Germany • Russian Lines • Alpine Country

As the war ends, American soldier Erik Carlsen expects to spend his final days in uniform counting the hours until home. Instead, a chance encounter with a Russian military policewoman changes everything. Separated by language, culture, and the dangerous tensions between their nations, Erik and Alina are drawn together despite impossible odds. As victory celebrations give way to Cold War suspicion, they discover that love may be the most dangerous act of defiance either of them has ever attempted.

A sweeping wartime romance set against the dramatic final days of World War II and the dawn of the Cold War.

Book 5

Desert Crucible

1945 – 1948

North Africa • Europe • California • Nevada

After surviving years of brutal combat across North Africa and Europe, Henry Carlsen comes home determined to leave the war behind. Instead, he finds himself haunted by memories and a loss he cannot forget. Searching for new purpose, Henry is drawn into the harsh Nevada desert, where ambition, power, and temptation threaten everything he values. As the stakes rise, he must decide what kind of man he wants to become — in a world where success often comes at a terrible price.

A powerful story of redemption, integrity, and finding purpose after life’s darkest seasons.

Prequel

Hope on the Plains

1886 – 1936

Norway • New York City • Oklahoma

When tragedy forces young Magnus Carlsen and his siblings to leave their Norwegian fishing village for the crowded streets of New York City, they are thrust into a world nothing could have prepared them for. As the brothers push west in search of something better, they face hardship, danger, and the raw edge of the American frontier. Just when Magnus begins building a future of his own, a single act of courage puts him at the center of a conflict that could cost him everything — or give him the life he never knew he was looking for.

A sweeping saga of family, faith, courage, and the beginnings of a legacy that will span generations.

Peter Nielsen

Peter Nielsen spent twenty years treating World War II veterans — hearing their stories every day. Not the polished versions from documentaries, but the raw, personal, often unspoken accounts of men who lived through combat, loss, and survival.

His father and four uncles were WWII veterans. His father served in the Navy, was present at D-Day and the European invasions, and later fought off kamikazes near Okinawa. Peter grew up immersed in the war’s legacy.

The Carlsen Family Series grew out of bedtime stories Peter told his children — adventures involving a time machine that transported them back to historical events. In August 2024, he felt God tell him to stop and wait. That Christmas, his oldest daughter challenged him to write a story like the ones he used to tell. He started writing in January 2025, and it has been a consuming fire ever since.

“I know what it is like to be brought to my knees and then see God come through when all hope was seemingly lost. I want to convey the message that trials are real and that the greater the trial, the greater the sun shines when you can look back and see His hand at work.”

Peter writes to spread hope. That’s the mission. These books are meant to become something families enjoy and pass down for generations — an adult Little House on the Prairie for a world that needs it.
